ABOUT MY WORK

My hope is to create art that enables the freedom to respond with self-reflection, self-interpretation and introspection. My work is usually large and unrestricted, inviting the viewer to become absorbed into the work.

These art pieces, my work, which I choose to call “emerging art,” seem to happen without much planning on my part, without “intentional mark making,” almost as if there is a greater force guiding my soul, my hands and my brush.

This is not to say I work mindlessly or without care. Indeed there is great care taken with each movement and each stroke, with intense observation and witnessing.

I work with prayer filled awareness and appreciation and I marvel at each new force of creative energy that comes to life before my eyes; like a child re-discovering the face of its mother when her love filled eyes come back into the child’s view after a few seconds of her “Peekaboo” disappearance.

About Melanie Meyer's Artwork

My art is not about expressing my own personal messages or conceptual ideas. It is not the all important “I” who communicates. Instead, I listen and respond to the medium through which energy flows; I feel into the space where ideas and messages are expressed through me onto the canvas or into the clay. I do not seek to control the outcome; I trust the process and embrace the natural ‘unfolding’ of the art, allowing myself to be simply a vessel for the emerging work that each piece is meant to become.

While each piece created is an exploration, they are simultaneously an invitation to step into a world of quiet reflection and discovery. I work intuitively, often letting the materials guide me.

There is a certain magic in this approach – where what emerges feels like a conversation with the universe itself, a reflection of the forces at play within and around us.

Whether through a painting, drawing, or sculpture, I seek to dance with these energies and ultimately share this dance with others, inviting you, the observer, to experience the same sense of wonder and connection that I feel when I create.

Nature is my constant source of inspiration, from the delicate balance of life in the smallest of creatures to the grandeur of the tallest forest trees and driest desert canyons.

There is a spiritual depth in these moments of awe, and my work seeks to reflect this dream-like and prayer filled state.

I aim to bring the beauty, mystery, and sacredness of the natural world into each piece, with a deep reverence for what it can teach me.

About Melanie Meyer's Artwork

Each work has been a gift to me, my soul, my being …and I am honoured to share these gifts with you and others.

Many of my works now reside in private collections worldwide, including the private gallery of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Washington, DC, to the sacred homes of people around the globe, for this honour and privilege I am deeply grateful. And still, beyond this indulgent sense of recognition, what matters most to me, is the act of creation itself. I believe the greatest masterpiece is a life well-lived.  I feel my art is both a reflection of that and a map leading me home.

Thank you for being here.

“I am not the same soul I once was. A lot has changed. A lot had to change. So you shouldn’t expect out of me what I embodied in the past, for that part of me no longer exists.”
